Sole Representative Visa

Introduction

If you are working at a senior position or have worked in a senior position, you can be selected to be a overseas business representative for your parent company. You will be able to run the branch or a subsidiary wholly-owned by the parent company. The branch or subsidiary has to engage in the same type of business as the parent company.

 

Who is eligible?

  • Pass English language test or with an English degree met Home Office’s requirements
  • Have enough funds to support yourself (and your family) in UK

In addition:

  • You are only allowed to apply outside the UK
  • If a visa is granted, you can only work for the branch or the subsidiary wholly owned by the overseas parent company
  • You must use the funds to start a business or invest in an existing business
  • You must set up a branch or register a company as a director for overseas parent company.
  • You cannot work for other employers.

How long can you stay?

The length of the initial entrepreneur visa is 3 year and 4 months.

 

Notes on Sole Representative visa route

If you are coming to the UK as a sole representative you must:

 

  • be recruited and employed outside the UK by a company whose headquarters and principal place of business are outside the UK
  • have extensive related industry experience and knowledge
  • hold a senior position within the company (but not be a major shareholder) and have full authority to make decisions on its behalf
  • intend to establish the company’s first commercial presence in the UK, eg a registered branch or a wholly owned subsidiary

 

You may also be eligible if the company has a legal entity in the UK that doesn’t employ staff or transact business.

If your company has been working to establish a UK branch or subsidiary, but it is not yet set up, you can replace a previous sole representative.
